Attack, Cristina Kirchner: The three Nazi symbols engraved on the attacker’s skin

Agencia AJN.- One of the peculiarities of neo-Nazis is that they make their ideology of hate visible. Fernando Andrés Sabag Montiel would fit this profile. No one who didn’t want to show their sympathy for the regime that caused the Holocaust would have such identifiable symbols engraved on their skin. He doesn’t wear the swastika, but the tattoo on the back of his left hand clears up any doubt: the Iron Cross.

It’s the representation of the decoration for bravery in combat awarded by Prussia and the continuation of Germany. It’s not a Nazi image per se, as Die Bundeswahr (the German army) maintained until recently a modernised version as its main logo, but, like German verbs, images have to be translated in context and Argentine neo-Nazis generally adopt the Iron Cross as a vindication of the Adolf Hitler period, without dwelling on historical processes of denazification of banners.

The swastika cannot be used openly, so they disguise – not so much – their membership with other symbols. And in order not to cause immediate rejection outside the neo-Nazi milieu, the Iron Cross is always accompanied by the explanation that it’s in fact an image related to the Knights Templar. That is another story, and in the case of Fernando Andrés Sabag Montiel the context is different from the mythical order of crusaders and its magical ramifications. On the back of his right hand is a tattoo of Thor’s hammer. And there is no mention of that emblem in the Marvel movies.

The image is taken from Norse mythology and has been appropriated by neo-Nazi groups and the far-right troupe that is channelled politically in Europe with parties whose rise has led them to prowl for power on the basis of social discontent. It’s another symbol that, from the appropriations of the Third Reich, came to be associated with neo-Nazis. The European hooligans, the workforce of local nationalist projects, make this emblem visible when they seek to provoke a political effect.

The image of the so-called Black Sun also appears on one of their elbows. And in this case the link is with the mysticism of Heinrich Himmler, one of the most atrocious leaders of Nazism. This representation of a symbol of triumph dominated the meeting room of the leading SS officers.

The three images on the same body could not be considered a confusion when choosing tattoos. It speaks of the intention to convey the thoughts of the wearer. His way of presenting himself to the world, of saying who he is.

And an additional detail. The neo-Nazis and their close relatives here – only in the local version that have little in common in history – the anarchists, have a special predilection for remembering dates. Sabag Montiel attacked Cristina Kirchner on 1 September. In 1939, Adolf Hitler launched the invasion of Poland on that day, which was the start of a war that would cost millions of lives.
